Gerald D. Schackow

Gerald Schackow was born in Akron, Ohio. Shortly after graduating from high school, he served in the United States Army for three years. He then attended the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he played football for the University of Hawaii Warriors, and more importantly, where he met his wife Joanne. In 1962, he and Joanne moved to Gainesville, Florida where Gerald graduated from the University of Florida and entered law school in 1963. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida College of Law in 1965 and began practicing law as an attorney in June of 1966. Gerald has practiced law in North Central Florida (Gainesville, Ocala, and Lake City) for over 50 years.

Initially, Gerald was a Criminal Defense attorney, as well as, a Family Law attorney. In the early 1970s, he wrote the “Florida Family Law Practice Manual,” which was published by Matthew Bender & Company, Inc., and is still a current and well-used family law publication. Soon thereafter, he began to limit his practice to personal injury work and has done that exclusively for the past 40 years. He is currently an AV rated attorney, and because he lives in Gainesville, Florida, which has 50,000 students at the University of Florida and Interstate 75 running through it, Gerald has specialized in Interstate (I-75) accidentswrongful death casestruck accidents, and student bicycle, motorcycle, and scooter accidents.

Gerald is currently admitted to the Florida Bar, as well as, the United States Court of the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Florida. During his career, he has been active in ABOTA, the Florida Justice Association, The James C. Adkins American Inn of Court as a board member and officer, the Eighth Judicial Circuit Bar Association, also as a board member and officer, the Eighth Judicial Grievance Association, and many other community clubs and legal associations.

In his free time, Gerald loves to run, bicycle, play tennis and golf, and spend time with his family. Gerald Schackow has been reviewed by his peers and has been recognized AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell©.
